Vermont Artist - Statement

MFCarterAs I have evolved as an artist, I have gone through various transitions, building on what I have just learned and then working through my newfound curiosity. Currently, I am exploring the abstract form and texture.

For a while now, the 2 dimensional canvas has really been my muse with texture and color being the true subject and my subject matter being the introductory form that leads the viewer through the journey of each painting. My paintings are oftentimes abstract and at times representational.

I do a lot of my work in my head before turning to the canvas. I frequently though not always use Photoshop to make sketches for the basis of my paintings. I

My inspirations are many; dreams are important to me in my creative process. In addition, the beauty I see in nature, the serenity I feel when observing friends and family, the beauty of the support of people helping one another are all inspirations. Whether my subject matter is lost in complex abstraction or broken down to its abstract planes, the journey on each canvas allows me to express the essence of what it feels like to me.

My goal with each painting is for it to be rich and thought provoking and emotionally stimulating. There should be moments of excitement, a rush as well as moments of calm and familiarity with a continual discovery of something new.
