As I have evolved as an artist, I have gone through various transitions, building on what I have just learned and then working through my newfound curiosity. Currently, I am exploring the abstract form and texture.
For a while now, the 2 dimensional canvas has really been my muse with texture and color being the true subject and my subject matter being the introductory form that leads the viewer through the journey of each painting. My paintings are oftentimes abstract and only at times representational. What I aim to express is simply the emotion behind whatever subject I am painting.
I do a lot of my work in my head before turning to the canvas. I frequently though not always use Photoshop to make sketches for the basis of my paintings. With a thorough, thoughtful, daring and intense exploration of color and texture, I work with my subject matter and add to it over and over until the entire painting comes together as whatever it is I am feeling and then expressing. In each painting, I choreograph a dance between color and texture allowing the viewer to freely meander through each piece guided by all the elements; color, emotion, line and shape, paint application, light and depth, subject and mood.
My inspirations are many; dreams are important to me in my creative process. In addition, the beauty I see in nature, the serenity I feel when observing friends and family, the darker side of the human spirit when I am observing the news, the beauty of the support of people helping one another are all inspirations. Whether my subject matter is lost in complex abstraction or broken down to its abstract planes, the journey on each canvas allows me to express the essence of whatever it is, what it feels like to me.
My goal with each painting is for it to be rich and thought provoking and emotionally stimulating. There should be moments of excitement, a rush as well as moments of calm and familiarity with a continual discovery of something new.
